Society Kart vs Careem: Super App Convenience or Society-First Service?
Careem made ride-hailing everyday life in Pakistan. Society Kart focuses on the shops, riders and car vendors inside your own housing society. We compare what each does best — rides, deliveries, payments and privacy.

For many people in Pakistan, Careem was the first app that made it normal to book a car from a phone. Over the years it has grown into a broader "super app" in the region, with rides and a range of other services depending on the city and country.
Society Kart is a very different kind of app. It does not try to cover a whole city. It focuses on one housing society at a time — its shops, its delivery riders, and local car vendors — starting with PNWHS, Bin Qasim in Karachi.
So comparing them is less about "which is better" and more about "which is right for this job". This article walks through the differences honestly.
Services, prices and features change. What we say about Careem is general and based on public information at the time of writing. Always check the Careem website or app for what is available in your city today.
Two different starting points
Careem began with ride-hailing: you request a ride, the app finds a captain, and the fare is calculated by the platform. Its strength is reach — large cities, many drivers, and a mature, well-known product.
Society Kart begins with the society. Residents need groceries, medicine, milk, food from the market, sometimes a car for a family trip or an airport run. Shops and drivers who already serve the society need a simple way to receive those requests. Society Kart puts all of that in one app, limited to areas where it actually operates.
That design choice shapes everything else, from fares to privacy.

Rides and car booking
How Careem rides work
With a ride-hailing app like Careem, you set pickup and drop-off, choose a car type and get an upfront or estimated fare calculated by the platform. A captain accepts, and the platform manages the trip.
How Society Kart car booking works
Society Kart's car booking is closer to booking a car from a trusted local vendor:
1. You choose your trip in the app — pickup, drop-off, stops, date and time, one-way or return. 2. The app suggests a fare based on road distance. Currently that is Rs. 600 for up to 5 km and Rs. 150 for each started kilometre after that. 3. Local car vendors who are approved in your area send you offers. 4. You agree the final fare in the app before you travel.
This is useful for planned trips — a family visit, a wedding, a hospital appointment, an airport pick-up — where you want to know the vendor and agree the price in advance. You can see live examples on the Car Booking page.
For an instant ride across the city at any hour, a large ride-hailing network is still the natural choice. Society Kart's car booking is newer and smaller, and it is focused on the society.
Deliveries: shops in your own society
Delivery is where Society Kart is most different from a city-wide app.
On Society Kart you order from approved shops inside your society: restaurants, kiryana and marts, bakeries, fruit and vegetable sellers, chicken and meat shops, dairy, pharmacies and more. A rider from the same society picks up and delivers.
The rules are simple and the same for every shop:
- Minimum order Rs. 500 of items per shop
- Delivery charge Rs. 100 per order (not counted towards the minimum)
- Live tracking from Placed to Delivered
- A 4-digit delivery code that the rider must enter to complete the order
If you want to understand the steps in detail, read How to Order on Society Kart.
Payments
Society Kart supports:
- Cash on Delivery
- JazzCash or Easypaisa sent to the rider's wallet, with a screenshot uploaded in the order that the rider confirms
There is no card payment inside Society Kart yet. Careem, as a larger platform, has its own wallet and payment options in many markets. If you prefer paying by card or keeping a balance in an app wallet, that is a genuine advantage of a bigger platform today.
For more on staying safe with wallet payments, see Cash, JazzCash or Easypaisa?.
Privacy and safety
Society Kart is strict about one thing: phone numbers stay private.
- Shops, riders and car vendors never see the customer's number, and customers never see theirs.
- Everyone talks through in-app chat and free in-app calls linked to the order.
- Numbers typed into chats or ads are blocked automatically.
- Order voice notes are deleted when the order finishes.
In a housing society, where the rider may live a few streets away, this matters. It protects families and also protects riders and shop owners. Read Your Number Stays Private for the full explanation.

Support and help
Society Kart's Help & Support opens with an AI Assistant that understands English, Urdu, Roman Urdu and Arabic. It can track your order, answer delivery and payment questions, and pass the conversation to a person from the team with one tap. You can also use the contact form.
Large platforms have big support operations built over many years. A society-focused app has a different strength: the shop, rider and customer are all in the same neighbourhood, so problems are usually local and quick to sort out.
For drivers and car owners
If you own a car and want to earn from trips, the models differ:
- On Society Kart, car vendors receive trip requests from residents and send their own fare offers. A flat platform fee applies per completed booking, shown in the app — currently Rs. 200 per completed car booking.
- Large ride-hailing platforms usually set fares themselves and apply their own commission structures.
